– ROME, AUGUST 21 – The Afghan national football team is facing an uncertain future after the Taliban’s rise to power. “It could happen that we will not play anymore,” player Hassan Amin told the local German newspaper Mannheimer Morgen, which was reprinted by the Frankfurter Allgemeine.
The 34-year-old defender, who played for Sv Meppen, the third division of the German league until last season, explains that he is in constant contact with his national team coach, Anoush Dastgir.
“The question” to ask is “whether the Taliban will accept football matches,” said Amin. “If so, will Fifa still accept us? If so, under which flag? We have always said that we play for the Afghan people and for no political or religious group”. (HANDLE).
