– ROME, AUGUST 15 – Gerd Muller, striker and symbol of Bayern Munich, died this morning at the age of 75, announcing it with a press release. Nicknamed ‘der bomber’ for his familiarity with the life of the net, Muller had scored 68 goals in 62 games for the German national team, with whom he had won the European Championships in 1972 and the World Cup in 1974. With Bayern he had scored 566 goals in 607 official matches and had won the Intercontinental Cup, three European Cups and a Cup Winners’ Cup, as well as four Bundesliga titles and four German Cups. Muller still holds the record for the highest number of goals scored in the Bundesliga, with 365, and had closed his career as a footballer in the North American Nasl, in Florida in the Fort Lauderdale Strikers.
