Battaglia di Laura Santi, reclamo per ordinanza incompleta sulla eutanasia
Laura Santi, a woman from Perugia suffering from advanced multiple sclerosis, is continuing her legal battle to access assisted suicide. She has filed a complaint with the civil court of Umbria, requesting that the local health authority complete the necessary procedures for her to access medical assistance in dying. She is asking the court to overturn a previous partial ruling that partially granted her request. Laura’s lawyers argue that the initial ruling acknowledged her existing right to have her conditions assessed for assisted suicide, but did not provide the health authority with the means to complete the necessary assessments. They are requesting a complete order for the assessments to be completed, as determined by the Constitutional Court and the lower court judge. The local health authority has conducted health assessments, but has not addressed the part of the ruling that requires the identification of the most appropriate medication and the methods of self-administration. In the meantime, the ethics committee has reviewed the case and agrees with the medical commission’s findings, stating that the necessary requirements have been met, with the exception of vital treatment.
