– CATANZARO, 21 AUG – Since 1 July last, 6,725 interventions have been carried out by the firefighters in Calabria for forest and vegetation fires alone, of which over 3,800 from 1 August to today. The provinces most affected were Cosenza with 1,760 interventions, Reggio Calabria (1,730), Catanzaro (1,580), Vibo Valentia (940), Crotone (715).

For 205 interventions it was necessary to use the national air fleet to support the firefighting teams operating from the ground with 538 sorties of the Canadair and 155 of the CNVVF helicopters on the Calabrian territory. The activities of helicopters activated by the Calabria Region have been added to the state fleet.

In the last 24 hours, throughout the region, over 160 interventions have been completed and 25 are being carried out by the provincial fire brigade commands. In support of the intervention device there are 5 AIB operating modules from Veneto, Emilia Romagna and Tuscany and 10 off-road vehicles in AIB configuration sent from Emilia Romagna, Piedmont, Liguria, Friuli Venezia Giulia and Veneto.

Flames have affected the hamlets of Zangarona, Fronti and Accaria in the municipality of Lamezia Terme (Catanzaro). On site 4 fire brigade teams for a total of 20 units and 9 vehicles that continued with the fire extinguishing work. A helicopter from the Calabria region also operated. In the Crotone area at work in Cirò Superiore, in the locality of Madonna della Catena, for a fire of scrub and Mediterranean scrub.

The fire fighting activity in the Menta Dam area within the Aspromonte National Park continues in Reggino. Numerous teams work from the ground while from the first light of dawn aircraft of the state fleet are in place. The Sapr nucleus, enabled to use the Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (drones), was also involved, which, although not directly contributing to the shutdown, made it possible to acquire useful visual information on the extended areas covered by the fire. Currently there are 4 teams, 2 Dos, Nucleo Sapr, 2 Canadair and an S64F Helicopter. (HANDLE).
