– BEIRUT, AUGUST 14 – At least 20 people were killed in the explosion of a tanker in the Akkar region, in northern Lebanon, according to reports from the Red Cross. “Our teams have transported over 20 bodies and more than 7 injured from the blast site to the region’s hospitals,” tweeted the Red Cross. Some videos shared on social media show a large fire at the site of the explosion. The cause of the explosion is unclear at the moment. Lebanon, hit by one of the worst economic crises in the world since 1850 according to the World Bank, has been struggling with fuel shortages for months. Yesterday, the Lebanese army said it had seized thousands of liters of petrol and diesel that distributors were storing in pumps across the country. (HANDLE).
