Lucca Comics 2023, a popular comic convention, will feature a five-meter-tall statue of Cthulhu, a monster created by H.P. Lovecraft. The statue, inspired by the game Cthulhu, Death May Die, weighs over 800 kg and depicts a humanoid, octopus-headed creature. The convention will also showcase 10 original artworks of Cthulhu by renowned comic artists such as Zerocalcare and Gipi. These artworks will be available for purchase as limited edition reproductions. Cthulhu is a fictional creature created by Lovecraft, residing in the lost city of R’lyeh and waiting for favorable astral alignment to awaken. The character is part of Lovecraft’s elaborate mythos, which includes other abominable alien beings known as the Great Old Ones. The mythos surrounding Cthulhu was not initially developed by Lovecraft himself, but by other contemporary writers who incorporated Lovecraft’s creations into their own works. The convention will also feature cosplayer gatherings, makeup sessions, and special events celebrating iconic fantasy works like “The Lord of the Rings” and “Harry Potter.” Additionally, there will be a premiere of the Italian horror film “Mimì. Il principe delle tenebre,” directed by Brando De Sica.
