– ROME, AUGUST 16 – The Russian Daniil Medvedev won his fourth ATP Masters 1000 title, beating the 23-year-old American Reilly Opelka 6-4, 6-3 at the ‘National bank open’ played on the Toronto hard courts ( Canada).
He is the first Russian to win the tournament after the triumph of Marat Safin in 2000. Medvedev (number 2 in the world) prevailed on the young American (32/0 in the ranking before this tournament), who played his first final in a Master 1000, after an hour and 25 minutes of play.
“With Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal playing, it seemed like an unattainable result. Now I have four wins in five finals, which is a good score. I’m just happy. I want to achieve more,” Medvedev said in an interview after the match. (HANDLE).
