(ANSA-AFP) – ROME, AUG 18 – Mercedes will withdraw from the Formula E world championship, which it just won in Berlin last Sunday, at the end of the 2022 season. “As part of its new strategic directions, the brand has decided to transfer its resources as part of an accelerated electrification of its range aimed at offering three all-electric platforms that will be launched in 2025, “the German automaker announced in a press release. “Consequently, Mercedes will transfer the resources dedicated to the Formula E world championship to use the experience gained in competitions towards products developed in series”, adds the brand of the Star.
Mercedes participates in this championship with an official team from the 2019/2020 season, and has just won the two world titles in season 7: with drivers thanks to Dutchman Nyck de Vries and constructors in the last two races in Berlin, Saturday and Sunday . Mercedes is also present in Formula 1 where it has won all the drivers ‘and constructors’ titles since 2014, in particular thanks to the British Lewis Hamilton, in hybrid-powered single-seaters. “The group will dedicate its motorsport activities to Formula 1, strengthening the status of this discipline as the best laboratory for developing and testing sustainable and efficient technologies in the future,” added the German company.
