Matteo Messina Denaro, the boss of the Sicilian Mafia, known as Cosa Nostra, has died in a hospital in L’Aquila. His arrest 16 years ago in Palermo was named “Tramonto” after the poem written by Nadia Nencioni, a 9-year-old victim of the Georgofili massacre in Florence. Nadia’s uncle, Luigi Dainelli, described the use of her poem as a symbol and a message to all. In an interview, Colonel Lucio Arcidiacono of the Ros, the Italian investigative unit, discussed the hunt for the boss and the operation dedicated to Nadia. Her poem, written days before the attack, is still preserved and reproduced in schools. The monument in front of her grandmother’s house in La Romola also serves as a reminder of the family members who died in the bombing.
