Raffaele Sollecito, accused and then acquitted for the murder of Meredith Kercher, expressed his hope that the recent decision by the European Court of Human Rights to overturn Amanda Knox’s conviction for slander would lead to justice for him as well. Sollecito is awaiting a decision from the Court of Cassation regarding his request for compensation for unjust detention and the responsibility of the prosecutors. He and Knox spent nearly four years in prison before being cleared. Sollecito’s request for compensation has been rejected by the Court of Cassation, leading him to appeal to the European Court. He is seeking over one million euros in damages under the law on civil liability of magistrates.
