In the Lucca City Council meeting held on September 25, three important topics were discussed, municipal enterprises, the construction of an underground parking lot near Porta Santa Maria, and healthcare. The meeting started with a minute of silence to honor the late former President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano. The Council approved the consolidated budget for 2022, which showed a positive result of over 14 million euros, more than double compared to the 2021 budget. The municipal enterprises associated with the City Council recorded profits, indicating their good financial health. The meeting also addressed the future of the Metro company and the new underground parking lot in Piazza Santa Maria. The councilor Chiara Martini asked for clarification on the impact of the parking lot project on Metro, but it is still early to determine the outcome. The mayor, Mario Pardini, emphasized the importance of conducting a feasibility study to assess the project’s viability. The Council also discussed healthcare, with the approval of a motion presented by the League party, highlighting the need for a strong and efficient public healthcare system. The motion called for the elimination of barriers to medical school enrollment, greater investment in primary care, support for the third sector, and the implementation of assistance programs for individuals with special needs. However, the opposition parties criticized the motion for being politically motivated. Despite the opposition’s appeal for collaboration, the motion was approved without amendments, while another motion presented by the center-left was rejected.
