Prato piange Marino Giannoni, il cuore di Pepenero e decano di sala
Marino Giannoni, soul of the Pepenero restaurant in Prato, Italy, has passed away at the age of 92. Known for his passion and dedication to making guests feel good, Giannoni had worked in the restaurant industry for nearly 80 years. He was forced to retire in November due to complications from heart problems. Giannoni’s specialty was his beef tartare, which he would prepare at the table, impressing customers with his skills. He had worked at the historic Baghino restaurant in Prato for 42 years before joining Pepenero in 2002. Despite his fame and recognition, Giannoni remained humble, valuing the experiences and anecdotes he shared with his customers. The Pepenero restaurant, run by Giannoni, his son Mirko Giannoni, and daughter-in-law Sara Sanesi, earned a high rating of 84 points in the Gambero Rosso guide. However, Giannoni’s only regret was never receiving a Michelin star, which he believed his son deserved.
