Aretino is preparing a grand tribute to Giorgio Vasari, a prominent figure of the Renaissance, on the 450th anniversary of his death in 2024. The mayor of Arezzo, Alessandro Ghinelli, has called for the first meeting of the committee tasked with organizing a national-level exhibition to commemorate Vasari. Despite the tight timeline, Ghinelli believes that the dedication and enthusiasm of all parties involved will allow for a program of national importance. The main event will take place on June 27th, with the Giostra festival held on June 23rd also dedicated to Vasari. The exhibition will display works from major museums and private collections in the Contemporary Art Gallery in the heart of the city. The acquisition of loans has already begun, and the project is being overseen by professors Cristina Acidini and Carlo Sisi. The exhibition will also include a visit to Vasari’s works throughout the province and in Florence, as well as a display of Vasari’s writings, including his correspondence, which are currently being digitized. Numerous organizations, including the Fondazione Arezzo Intour, the Fondazione Guido d’Arezzo, the Fondazione Cr Firenze, the Mic, the Soprintendenza, the Chamber of Commerce, the Fraternita dei Laici, the Diocese, and the Tuscan Regional Museum Directorate, are participating in the organization of the event. Eike Schmidt, the director of the Uffizi Gallery, has expressed his full support.
