Don Francesco Spagnesi, a former parish priest in Prato, Italy, was involved in a scandal in 2021 that included drug-fueled sex parties. He was also convicted for embezzling money from his parish. Spagnesi recently resigned from the clergy after being sentenced to three years and eight months. The scandal revealed that he had organized parties with cocaine and the date rape drug GBL, which were exclusively for men. He was also accused of embezzling €123,000 from the parish. Spagnesi’s partner at the time, who ordered drugs on the dark web, was also implicated in the investigation. The bishop of Prato announced that Spagnesi requested to be released from his priestly duties, and the Pope granted his resignation. Spagnesi is now studying medicine, a path he had abandoned to become a priest.
