Il giardino dell’abbraccio – un sogno divenuto realtà.

Quarrata, a town in Italy, has opened a new green area called “Giardino dell’abbraccio” (Garden of Hugs). This garden serves as a place for reflection and silence while also reminding people of the joy of living together without fear of contagion. The garden was created during the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic when hugs seemed impossible. The former mayor, Marco Mazzanti, presented the project, inviting relatives of Covid victims to participate. The park, costing 250,000 euros, was inaugurated with the current mayor, Gabriele Romiti, and other officials. The garden is divided into two areas, one with geometric modules and cypress trees symbolizing the rigidity of distancing rules, and the other with an obstacle-free lawn and low walls that can be used as seats. An artwork in marble was also installed, featuring two figures reaching towards each other without touching. The space between them, a few centimeters apart, acts as an optical sight that marks the sunrise point on March 9th each year, the start of the pandemic. Mayor Romiti expressed happiness in inaugurating the garden as a place of remembrance and gathering for the community.
