She had recently received a call from the army and was told that she would have to participate in the response to an attack by Hamas. Susanna and her husband were on vacation in Tel Aviv when they were awoken by sirens warning of the incoming attack. They quickly realized the seriousness of the situation and, a few hours later, Susanna received the call from the army ordering her to mobilize. She reacted with panic and fear, as she never expected to find herself in this position. Susanna and her husband returned home to Be’er Sheva to prepare for her departure, barricading themselves in their house for safety. She expressed feelings of guilt for being safe at home while others were suffering, and felt the need to do her part. Susanna knew friends who were affected by the attack, and two of them were kidnapped by Hamas. With her husband already deployed, Susanna is preparing to leave for Gaza herself to block dangerous roads and protect civilians. Her family is in Italy, and they are in constant communication, with her family feeling concerned for her safety. Despite the fear and uncertainty, Susanna dreams of finishing her studies in criminology and building a family in the near future. Before leaving, she asked her husband to keep in regular contact and not to take unnecessary risks. Their final words to each other were, “See you soon.”
