Mario Forconi, a 74-year-old photographer and collector, has spent the last forty years traveling through places, events, and generations to gather and collect vintage photographs and postcards, as well as documents related to the traditional shops of the past. The community of Barberino Tavarnelle is being remembered and rediscovered through over 8,000 digitized photos, which portray war and peace, life and love, traditional activities and institutional ceremonies, as well as everyday life. These images tell the story of over a century, from the late 1800s to the present day, capturing the history and identity of the territory and the people who have lived there. Mario’s collection also includes a meticulous archiving system, with detailed information for each photo, such as the year, type of event, and subjects depicted. This collection has become an invaluable treasure and a testament to the visual culture and collective memory of the community. Mario continues his research, now using social media and citizen collaboration to further enrich his digital encyclopedia and give a face to the community, preserving its identity for future generations.
